Session 1D - Hope as a Skill: A New Approach to Understanding and Managing Suicide Risk


M. David Rudd is currently President and Distinguished University Professor of Psychology at the University of Memphis, a position he's held over the past eight years. As an internationally recognized expert in the field, he has extensive clinical and research experience with the assessment, clinical management and treatment of suicide risk. He is one of the creators of Brief Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Suicide Prevention, an empirically supported treatment with four iterative randomized clinical trials since the early 1990's. He's garnered more than $24M in grant funds over the years, has more than 240 publications, and his work more than 15,000 citations. His research has always been focused on clinical application and improving clinical effectiveness. Dr. Rudd's work has been recognized with awards, both national and international. He has served on many editorial boards, including multiple panels with the National Academies of Science.
